Case History
On Monday, September 17, 2001, a man is found dead in a motel room in Amanda Park, Washington. He had hanged himself on the coat rack. He has yet to be identified.
Three days previously (Friday, September 14, 2001), the man checks in using the name “Lyle Stevik”, and the address “1019 S Progress Ave, Meridian, Idaho”. The motel manager describes the man as having a “slight Canadian accent”; she thinks he might have a backpack, but isn’t sure. He arrives at the same time as buses stop outside the motel, but nobody is certain how Lyle traveled there. He is given the key to room 8, but returns an hour later to complain about noise from a nearby trailer park. The motel clerk describes Lyle as giving off “bad vibes”, being “spaced”, and making her feel nervous. He is given the key to room 5.
On Saturday 15 September, 2001, Lyle is noticed “pacing” up and down the highway. He is also seen by “several people” on the porch outside room 5. On Sunday, 16 September, 2001, the motel maid offers to clean his room; Lyle declines, but asks for additional towels. On Monday 16 September, 2001, Lyle is due to check out of his room. The maid finds his body and calls the motel owner. Police arrive.
Lyle leaves $160 in $20 bills in a hotel comment card, with “FOR THE ROOM” written on the front. In the bin, there is a copy of the previous day’s Daily World Sunday newspaper, an empty Pepsi cup, and a note with the word “SUICIDE” written across. Other items that are found in the room include a toothbrush, toothpaste, coffee cup, and $2.40 in spare change. In Lyle’s pocket is $8 in dollar bills and a pen.
The address Lyle gives on check-in belongs to the Best Western Rama Inn in Meridian, Idaho. Hotel employees do not recognize the John Doe.

'CANNIBAL KILLER' Social Worker Accused of Grindr Murder

A SOCIAL worker who “strangled and dismembered” a cop he met on Grindr “grated his victim’s flesh from his bones before eating some with chopsticks”.

PC Gordon Semple’s DNA was found on chopsticks and inside a pot at breaking-bad obsessed Stefano Brizzi’s home, a court heard today.
Brizzi, 50, is accused of trying to cook parts of the Metropolitan Police officer’s dismembered body in the oven.

There was also evidence of a bite mark on one of the 59-year-old’s ribs, the Old Bailey heard.

Crystal meth addict Brizzi told cops he “thought he was getting away with it” after being found “trying to dissolve PC Gordon Semple’s body in acid”.

Satanist Brizzi, who worked as a web developed for Morgan Stanley, is accused of killing the Metropolitan Police officer after organising a “hot dirty sleazy” sex session on dating app Grindr.

Some of the 59-year-old’s remains were found dissolving in a bath of acid after police were alerted to the “smell of death” coming from the Peabody Trust Estate in Southwark on April 7.

Brizzi later told officers: “I thought I was getting away with it. All I have left is two buckets’ of PC Semple’s flesh.”

The alleged killer also asked for a shower as “my bath tub has been unusable for days” and told police officers he “just didn’t like” his victim.

Other body parts were found in Brizzi’s bin and in the communal bins of Peabody Estate in Southwark, where the Italian lived.

One of Gordon’s severed feet was found by a member of the public on the south side of the river and attempts were also made to boil the PC’s flesh away in pans.

Before the alleged murder, the two men had been trying to persuade other gay men in the area to join them for a “Chemsex” party, the Old Bailey heard.

Only one man agreed to join, but was sent away by Brizzi – who told him over intercom: “We’re having a situation here. Someone fell ill but we’re taking care of it. So our party is cancelled.”

The witness, known only as CD to protect his identity, arrived just after 7pm – thought to be exactly the time Brizzi was strangling his victim.

In the days after the alleged murder, Brizzi bought a haul of hardware including a set of saws, metal sheeting and some large buckets to help him dispose of the body.

One of the men who had been invited to the party asked Brizzi how it had gone on April 6 – just one day before PC Semple’s body parts were found.

Brizzi replied: “People coming and going 1 guy felt bad on G (not that bad) in the end an experience not to be repeated.

“Somehow my address was all over Grindr and people would show up without even bothering [to] text before.”

He added: “I did say bring your own chems but apparently is a concept unheard of to any people.”

The Grindr user asked him: “Did you have good sex, or were you worrying about the carpet and the ornaments throughout?”

Brizzi replied: “Mostly worried nobody would steal some stuff while I was trying to calm down the dizzy guy on G [GHB].”

At the same time, Brizzi sent a false message on Grindr to Gordon Semple saying: “But this time just 1-1.”

Crispin Aylett QC, prosecuting, said: “The defendant appears to have created a cover story in which a number of different people had turned up and one of them (no doubt Gordon Semple) had been taken ill after taking GHB.

“This is not dissimilar to the story the defendant had told CD – ‘Someone fell ill but we’re taking care of him’.

“At the same time he was giving a false account of what had actually happened, the prosecution suggest the defendant was laying a false trail that was designed to suggest both that Gordon Semple was alive and that their previous encounter had got out of hand in the false way that the defendant had portrayed to this Grindr user.”
Here's a pic of the victim below:

After a few days, his neighbours started to complain of the overwhelming stench coming from the flat.

The Peabody estate caretaker initially tried to mask the smell with bubblegum scented spray.

When one neighbour knocked on Brizzi’s door to complain, the alleged killer answered in nothing but his underpants and a pair of sunglasses.

He responded: “I’m sorry about the smell. I am cooking for a friend.”

When officers arrived they were hit by the overpowering stench of cleaning chemicals and rotting meat.

Brizzi was still in his pants when they arrived and officers found the bath full of blue-green liquid with fish-coloured globules floating in it.
The bathroom floor was coated with slime, as well as a number of coloured buckets on the floor and two black bin liners.
Brizzi told them: “I’ve tried to disolve the body,” before adding: “I’ve killed a police officer.”
When he was asked what had happened, he said: “I killed him last week. I met him on Grindr and I killed him. Satan told me to.”
The black bin liners were found to contain mounds of flesh, a human pelvis, a hand and part of a spine.
As the two officers continued to explore the flat, Brizzi told them he hadn’t eaten all day and began tucking into a bread roll and a carton of milk.

Brizzi was still in his pants when they arrived and officers found the bath full of blue-green liquid with fish-coloured globules floating in it
Aylett said: “The officers said that, up until this times, the defendant seemed calm and relatively composed.
“Now, however, he said: ‘I spoke to Satan and he was telling me to kill, kill, kill and I agreed at the first opportunity’.
“That led the officer to ask him if he had any problems with his mental health. The defendant said he used a lot of crystal meth but there was nothing apart from that.”
Brizzi said he had dumped PC Semple’s personal items in a sewer in Bermondsey.
He told them he had put some body parts he had not been able to break down into a bag and taken them to Rotherhithe and dumped them in a quiet place by the river.
He also said the mixture in the bath was Caustic Soda and spirit of salt containing hydrofluoric acid, but that it hadn’t been able to dissolve the body.
Aylett said: “He said the chemicals needed to be heated to 300 degrees and he could not get them hot enough.
“He said that he had put what he described as the ‘flabbery’ bits in the buckets in the bathroom.”

Brizzi told cops he had dumped PC Semple’s personal items in a sewer in Bermondsey
Brizzi told them he had tried to flush the contents of the buckets down the toilet when the police arrived.
He added: “I didn’t know who he was. I didn’t like him. He just sat on my bed masturbating.
“I was talking online about Satan as a fetish – and crystal meth takes me to Satan. I loved crystal meth and wanted to meet someone who talked about Satan.”
PC Semple, from Greenhithe, Dartford, was reported missing by his partner Gary Meeks on Friday 1 April after he failed to come home from work.
The officer, originally from Inverness, Scotland, had worked in banking before joining the Metropolitan Police.
Brizzi, of the Peabody Estate Trust, Southwark, southeast London, denies murder.
He admits obstructing the coroner in his duty by dismembering PC Semple’s body in order to dispose of it.
The trial, which is expected to last three weeks, continues.

Lori Erica Ruff was the alias of an unidentified American woman and identity thief who committed suicide on December 24, 2010 in Longview, Texas. After she died, her ex-husband's family discovered a lockbox in a closet in her home. In the box a number of documents were discovered which revealed that Ruff had stolen the identity of Becky Sue Turner, a 2-year-old girl killed in a fire in 1971 in Fife, Washington, in 1988, and then changed her name to Lori Erica Kennedy. Despite massive investigations, her true identity has not been determined.

Ruff's earliest known activity dates back to May 1988, when she requested the birth certificate of Becky Sue Turner, a two-year-old girl who was killed, along with two of her siblings, in a house fire in Fife, Washington in 1971. The request was made in Bakersfield, California. She then traveled to Idaho, where she obtained a state ID card on June 16 using the girl's birth certificate.

After obtaining the driver's license, Ruff went before a judge in Dallas on July 5 1988 and legally changed her name to Lori Erica Kennedy; a week later she obtained a social security number, effectively erasing her past. She then received a Texas driver license in 1989, and the next year qualified for a GED then enrolled in Dallas County Community College. She eventually graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1997, with a degree in Business Administration.

A man who knew Ruff during this time have stated that she worked as a stripper in the early 1990s. She also received breast implants during this time

In 2003, Ruff met Blake Ruff, the son of a well-established family in East Texas, in a bible study class. Blake Ruff has admitted that he isn't completely sure what drew him to Lori. He describes her as being incredibly secretive, particularly regarding her past. She had told him she was from Arizona, that both her parents were dead, and that she had no siblings. She also said her father was a failed stockbroker. Despite the questions Blake's family had about Lori, the couple married in January 2004. The only person in attendance was the preacher.

After getting married, the Ruffs moved to Leonard, Texas. They tried several times to have a child, but had trouble conceiving and suffered multiple miscarriages. This has led investigators to believe that Ruff was much older than she claimed to be. She eventually gave birth to a baby girl via in-vitro fertilization in 2008.

Ruff was incredibly overprotective of her daughter, often refusing to let anyone else hold her, which angered her husband's family. She would also obsessively track the Ruffs' family history and try to find out their family recipes, but still refused to talk about her past. Additionally, she displayed many asocial behaviors, such as leaving social gatherings to take naps.

Eventually, Ruff did not want her in-laws to have any contact with her daughter. After some failed marriage therapy meetings, Blake Ruff moved back to his parents' house in Longview and filed for divorce, leaving Lori with their daughter in Leonard.

In the months between the separation and Lori's suicide, she behaved very erratically. A neighbor recalled that she and her daughter appeared to be very thin and that Lori would often ramble incoherently about her problems. She also began sending harassing e-mails to the Ruffs, created a scene at a custody hearing, and stole a set of house keys from them. The harassment was so severe that the Ruffs were planning to file a cease and desist order just before Lori's death.

On Christmas Eve 2010, Ruff's body was discovered in her car in the Ruffs' driveway, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot. In the car were two suicide notes: an 11-page one addressed to "my wonderful husband and another addressed to her daughter, to be opened on her 18th birthday.

After Lori's funeral, some of the Ruffs drove to Leonard to see if they can find out more about her in her house. The house was discovered in disarray, with piles of dirty dishes, laundry, and trash stacked up around the house, as well as shredded documents and papers with incoherent scribblings on them. They then discovered the lockbox in a closet, pried it open with a screwdriver, and discovered the documentation of Ruff's past. Also found in the lockbox was a paper with several seemingly random scribblings.

The suicide notes were quickly determined to be incoherent ramblings that offered no clues to Ruff's identity. The writings on the paper found in the lockbox included the scribblings "North Hollywood police", "402 months", and "Ben Perkins", who turned out to be an attorney. The nature of these scribblings has led some to believe that Ruff was trying to avoid prison time, due to the references to police, a possible jail term length, and the name of an attorney. However, Perkins has no memory of the woman, and there were no matches for the woman in fingerprint and facial recognition databases. The fact that Ruff was able to cover up her identity so well in a time before the Internet has led to speculation that she had visited an "identity broker".

The following people have been ruled out as possible identities for Ruff:

Clara Giusti
Michelle Giusti
Helen Green
Parley Pate
Denise Sheehy
Tina Walls

Ruff was a white female, who was approximately 41 to 50 years old when she committed suicide. She was above average height at 5 feet 10 inches (1.78 m) tall, and weighed 160 pounds (73 kg). She had brown hair and hazel eyes.

                                   Drunk the Boy's Blood

Drunk the boy's blood - Dismemberment
Number of victims: 1
Date of murder: April 19, 1998
Date of birth: August 11, 1977
Victim profile: David Cardenas (male, 12)
Method of murder: Slit the boy's throat with a knife
Location: Hidalgo County, Texas, USA
Status: Sentenced to death March 30, 1999

welve-year-old David Cardenas was still alive when his killer drank the blood from his wounds, according to a videotaped confession Pablo Lucio Vasquez later gave police. After Cardenas' April 1998 murder, his body was mutilated and buried in a shallow grave in Donna, Texas.

Vasquez, who admitted slitting Cardenas’ throat and beating him to death before stealing a ring and chain from the body, was executed Wednesday for the crime. He was 38.

“I started hearing voices in my head, and I told my cousin that somebody was telling me to kill him,” Vasquez said in his confession.

After his final appeals were denied by the U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday afternoon, Vasquez was strapped to a gurney in the Huntsville Unit shortly after 6 p.m. He was injected with a lethal dose of pentobarbital and pronounced dead at 6:35 p.m.

In his final statement, he thanked his family and apologized to Cardenas' family.

"This is the only way that I can be forgiven," he said from the execution chamber. "You got your justice right here."

In his last appeal, Vasquez claimed he wasn't given a fair trial because the court “repeatedly excused prospective jurors with sympathies against the death penalty but still qualified to serve,” according to the petition originally filed with the state. The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals had already rejected his claim.

In previous unsuccessful appeals, Vasquez's attorneys argued that the murder shouldn't have been considered a capital crime because Vasquez didn't kill Cardenas intending to rob him, according to court documents. They have also claimed that his trial counsel was ineffective for not using an insanity defense.

Sometime in the early morning of April 18, 1998, Cardenas, Vasquez, then 20, and Vasquez’s cousin, 15-year-old Andres Chapa, left a party together. Vasquez had been drinking, smoking marijuana and snorting cocaine, according to his confession.
When they got to the house where Chapa’s mother was staying, Vasquez said he “blacked out” and started hearing voices telling him to kill Cardenas. He struck the boy several times in the back of the head with a pipe.

Vasquez then slit Cardenas’ throat while Chapa began to prepare a grave, Vasquez said.

“He was still saying something, and I picked him up in the air,” Vasquez said in his confession. “The blood was dripping and got it all over my face. So, I don’t know, I mean something just told me drink.”

Vasquez put Cardenas back down, and Chapa hit the boy in the face with a shovel five or six times, according to Vasqeuz’s statement.

The two dug a small hole, placed Cardenas in it, and covered him with grass and pieces of wood.

When police found Cardenas’ body on April 22, he was scalped and missing a foot, arm and part of his other arm. Skin had been cut from his back, court documents stated.

Vasquez confessed to the murder after his arrest and was indicted on capital murder charges for the boy’s death and the theft of his jewelry. He was convicted and sentenced to death in March 1999 in Hidalgo County, just over 17 years ago.

Chapa was also convicted but received a 35-year-sentence because he was a minor. He first became eligible for parole last year but was denied in December. His next shot at parole is in 2020, according to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
